About the farm and producer

Throughout Gabriel Mayorga’s childhood, his parents, Maira and Gabriel Sr., were slowly acquiring parcels of land while working their formal jobs. Their goal was to generate extra farming income to support their three sons, and to one day be able to solely focus on their family coffee farm. Maira has maintained her position as director of an 80 member coffee cooperative called Comipronil, which allows her to give back to the community of small farmers in the region where she grew up. Gabriel Sr., after letting go of his formal job, is now able to center his attention on producing coffee and expanding their farm’s operations.

Gabriel Jr. was the first of his family to go to university, where he became an engineer in agronomy, along with his brother Daniel. In 2022, the two began drying coffee on land owned by Maira’s grandparents, outside of the small town of San Miguelito. They started off drying their family’s coffee, and soon after became trusted to dry the coffee of other farmers in the area, consistently and for a fair price.

Every member of the Mayorga family impresses us with how they are continuously learning and growing! Gabriel Jr. recently passed his basic SCA degree, and has the goal of becoming a licensed Q-Grader. For their drying patios, Daniel and Gabriel want to buy a mechanical dryer, and are looking into installing solar power. Their youngest brother, David, is finishing his secondary education specializing in agriculture, and was recently given three heifers to tend to! Now managing his own farm, we’re excited to be importing Gabriel Jr.’s coffee for the first time this year through the Cafesmo cooperative.
