About the producer group
One cool aspect of the Cafesmo cooperative in Honduras is their specialized groups formed to promote people who tend to be underrepresented in coffee production. Women’s Power / Poder de Mujer is one of these groups, consisting of 54 women from several different backgrounds, who have come together to support and learn from one another. The members, some managing their farms after their partner or family has left to work in the United States, all face unique challenges as coffee producers. Through Women’s Power and Cafesmo, farmers contribute what they’ve learned from their experiences as women working in coffee production. They are able to promote and sell their coffee that they grow and process individually, as well as offer special blends like this one. This group, and this coffee, is a strong symbol of women supporting women, and of their individual and collective resilience in this often demanding and difficult work.
